THIS LESSON WILL TAKE 2 DAYS TO COMPLETE
Day 1:
Step 1: Mrs. Silver will begin class by asking students to answer the DO NOW question on their Cornell Notes-Why does a religion, at times, spread so quickly? The question will lead students thinking and generate ideas for the topic of today in order to help them connect with the material. Mrs. Silver will use ClassDojo to randomly select students to share their answers to the DO NOW.
Step 2: Mrs. Silver will begin direct instruction via Islam: Submission to the Will of Allah power point. Students will take notes on their Cornell Notes. The power point will give students information about the rise of the religion of Islam, how it spread quickly, while becoming an empire. It will also provide students with background information, an understanding of the 5 Pillars of the Islamic faith, and some quick facts.
Students will use information from their notes as a resource to complete an Islam storybook.
Step 3: Mrs. Silver will pass out the 5 Pillars Storybook Directions and The 5 Pillars of Islam Storybook Rubric handouts. She will read all directions and expectations aloud to students. Next, she will tell students that they can use the following to help them complete their books: students will use their Cornell notes from today, a 5 Pillars of Islam Reading, Islam as a religion reading, and their devices to write and illustrate a religion of Islam storybook. Mrs. Silver will allow students to choose a partner to work with for this project.
