SWBAT:

  • Analyze how political upheaval, the plague, and dissension within the Empire led to Rome's decline.

  • Examine the consequences of building your empire too big that the leaders are unable to control the actions of their citizens.

Step 1: Mrs Silver will begin class by passing out guided notes and asking students to answer the DO NOW on their guided notes. Students will have 5 minutes to complete.

Step 2: Mrs. Silver will begin direct instruction via The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire power point. Students will take notes by following the presentation, reading, and filling in corresponding blanks.

Step 3: Students will use and transfer information from their guided notes to outline the Causes and Effects of The Fall of the Roman Empire. Students will work on this independently for the first 10 minutes, then Mrs. Silver will allow students to partner and share their responses-using the Think, Pair, Share reading strategy.

Step 4: Students will return to their seats. Mrs. Silver will pass out Reasons for the Fall of the Roman Empire reading. Students will work independently reading the DBQ using the Post-its reading strategy. Once students have read and posted the handout they will answer the questions at the end, using the reading to help them. Students will turn the DBQ in at the end of class.
