DO NOW - List the first 4-5 words you think of when you think of Africa. Explain each.
Lesson for the Day:
Step 1: Students will begin by answering the Do Now with 4-5 complete sentences. Once students have completed, we will discuss, as a class, 4-5 complete sentences that should be written.
Next, I will introduce the main "3 Kingdom States of Africa Ghana, Mali, and Songhai" via PowerPoint. Students will follow instruction by taking Cornell Notes. I will add verbal details to the power point to give them more background information and context as we move through each slide. Students will finish Cornell Notes by writing a summary at the bottom of the Cornell Notes about the "3 Main Kingdom States of Africa".
Step 2: Students will read about the 3 Kingdom States of Africa and complete a graphic organizer. The graphic organizer is a "cut down" version of the PERSIAN Chart and will help students to understand the Government, Economy, Important Cities, and Religion for each Kingdom State.
Step 3: Homework: Students will complete a DBQ on Africa Before European Arrival. Students will use Documents to help them answer accompanying questions
