Identify and describe the relationship between the Early African Kingdoms of Ghana, Mali, and Songhay
List and describe the political, social, economic and religious systems of the Early African kingdoms.
Analyze primary sources for content and point of view.
Step 1: Students will begin by answering the Do Now - List the first 4-5 words you think of when you think of Africa. Explain each. Once students have completed, we will discuss, as a class, 4-5 complete sentences that should be written. Mrs. Silver will use class DOJO to select students randomly.
Step 2: Next, Mrs. Silver will introduce the main "3 Kingdom States of Africa Ghana, Mali, and Songhai" via PowerPoint. Students will follow instruction by taking Cornell Notes. I will add verbal details to the power point to give them more background information and context as we move through each slide. Students will finish Cornell Notes by writing a summary at the bottom of the Cornell Notes about the "3 Main Kingdom States of Africa".
Step 3: Students will read about the 3 Kingdom States of Africa-Chapter 7; Section 2, and complete a graphic organizer. The graphic organizer is a "cut down" version of the PERSIAN Chart and will help students to understand the Government, Economy, Important Cities, and Religion for each Kingdom State.
