Lesson for theday:
Step1: Students will begin by answering the Do Now- If you had an opportunity to re-write the history of your family so that it reflects only what you want it to say...What would you write? with 4-5 complete sentences. Once students have completed, we will discuss, as a class, 4-5 complete sentences that should be written. Students should be able to describe how they would leave out or redo certain "bad" moments within their history in order to gain a more pleasant/powerful family lineage.
Step 2:Mrs. Silver will introduce The Mayan, Aztec, and Inca Civilizations via PowerPoint. Students will follow instruction by taking guided notes-writing in corresponding words to blanks. She will add verbal details to the power point to give them more background information and context as we move through each slide. Students will be able to determine the development of each civilization and the resources they used in order to adapt to the environment, survive, and build their permanent civilizations. Students comprehension of the concept will deepen as it is discussed throughout the presentation as well as student engagement with responses.
Step 3: Mrs. Silver will pass out Pre-Columbian MesoamericanCivilizations graphic organizer. She will explain each step to students. Students will find the following information for each of the Mesoamerican Civilizations that are listed on the graphic organizer. First, Mrs. Silver will tell students that they are to find the geographic location, time frame, and write that under the name of the civilization. Step 2, they will draw and color an example of their architecture/tribal symbol warrior, religious ritual, priest, etc. Step 3, students will identify what the political system and name(s) of leaders. Step 4, students will identify the contributions. Step 5, students will analyze and determine why the civilization came to an end. Mrs. Silver will give students the remainder of class to research and complete their individual graphic organizer.
