Know and explain the Catholic Church's actions to counter the effects of Protestantism.
Understand the rationale behind the Catholic Church's need to counter Protestantism.
Lesson for the Day:
Step1: Students will begin by answering the Do Now-What would you do to correct a decision you made that was too drastic and could cost you everything you cherish? with 4-5 complete sentences. Once students have completed, we will discuss, as a class, 4-5 complete sentences that should be written. Students should be able to come to the conclusion that compromise and correction is better than losing it all.
Step 2: Mrs. Silver will introduce The Counter Reformation via PowerPoint. Students will follow instruction by taking guided notes-writing in corresponding words to blanks. She will add verbal details to the power point to give them more background information and context as we move through each slide. Students will be able to determine the response of the Catholic church to the formation of new denominations. Students comprehension will deepen as it is discussed throughout the presentation as well as student engagement with responses. Mrs. Silver will point students to their notes for the S.I.N.S. acronym to help them remember and connect to the response of the Reformation. STUDENTS ACCESSING THIS POWER POINT VIA INTERNET WILL NEED TO START WHERE WE LEFT OFF YESTERDAY, ON SLIDE 28.
Step 3: Once Mrs. Silver has discussed the response to the Reformation, she will pass out the handout The Protestant Reformation - Word Search. Students will be instructed to partner up to complete this activity. Once students have completed the word search they will need to use their device to look up and define words on the back side of the handout.
