Recognize major influences on the architectural, artistic, and literary developments of the Italian Renaissance
Identify the major artistic, literary, and technological contributions of individuals during the Renaissance.
Lesson for the Day:
Step1: Students will begin by answering the Do Now-Imagine that you have lived in Florence, Italy immediately following the Black Death. You have survived, but many around you have not. Describe your environment. How do you feel? with 4-5 complete sentences. Once students have completed, we will discuss, as a class, 4-5 complete sentences that should be written. Students should be able to describe the environment that surrounds them and the impact it would have on the way they felt.
Step 2: Mrs. Silver will introduce The Renaissance via PowerPoint. Students will follow instruction by taking guided notes-writing in corresponding words to blanks. She will add verbal details to the power point to give them more background information and context as we move through each slide. Students will be able to determine the development of the Renaissance and its impact to society within Italy and expansion into Europe. Students comprehension of the concept will deepen as it is discussed throughout the presentation as well as student engagement with responses.
Step 3: Mrs. Silver will introduce The Masters of the Renaissance via PowerPoint. Students will follow instruction by taking quick notes on the lines next to the 3 slides per page. She will add verbal details to the power point to give them more background information and context as we move through each slide. Students will gain an understanding about "Humanism" and how each person emerged as important people during the Renaissance, as well as their individual contributions.
Step 4: Once Mrs. Silver has discussed the development, impact, and contributions of the Renaissance, she will pass out the handout Johannes Gutenburg-The Printing Press. Students will be given 10 minutes to read and use the post-it reading strategy. Once 10 minutes have passed Mrs. Silver will allow students to partner up and use the Think, Pair, Share strategy for answers. Students will be given 5 minutes to share their answers and thoughts about the reading. After the 5 minutes have passed Mrs. Silver will use Class Dojo to randomly select students to share their answers. (ONLY use the Johannes Gutenberg Reading-void the Luther reading)
Step 5: Mrs. Silver will pass out The Renaissance handout. She will explain that students will use the post it reading strategy as they progress through the reading. Once they have completed the reading they will answer the corresponding questions.
