I Want Students:

  1. Know that the Enlightenment influenced revolt and rebellion in Europe and in the Americas.

  2. Understand and describe the events that led to the Revolutionary War.

  3. Complete activities that enhance their reading and visual comprehension (Skill).

Lesson for the day:

Step 1: Mrs. Silver will begin class by introducing the American Revolution going over Enlightenment Thinkers and their contributions to revolutions. Next, she will pass out the video viewing guide and explain to students that they will be watching a 2 PART video on the American Revolution. Students will view the 2 parts on their own answering questions as they are explained on the video. Students will do this on an individual basis (they will need earbuds to do this), which will enable them to pause the video and write down their responses to the questions. This will be a self paced lesson. Mrs. Silver will tell students that the video is 50 minutes long and that they should be able to complete in an hour.

American Revolution Viewing Guide

2 Videos needed for viewing and completion of video guide

Part 1 - American Revolution

Part 2 - American Revolution

Step 2: After students have been given 1 hour to complete the videos and viewing guide, Mrs. Silver will pass out the American Revolution Reading and Questions handout. Students will read, using the post-it reading strategy, and answer the corresponding questions.
