I Want Students:

  1. Know the significance of some of the new innovations and theories on the daily lives of Europeans and on our lives today.

  2. Understand the impact of the development of technology and how scientific theories became the foundation of the Scientific Revolution.

  3. Analyze primary documents (Skill) to detect tone, bias, and Point of View of the author.

Lesson for the day:

Step 1: Students will begin by answering the Do Now-What new technology do we need to invent to make our lives more enjoyable? Why? with 4-5 complete sentences. Once students have completed, we will discuss, as a class, 4-5 complete sentences that should be written. Students should be able to generate 1-2 inventions and why it would make our lives more enjoyable.

Step 2: Mrs. Silver will introduce The Scientific Revolution via PowerPoint. Students will follow instruction by taking Cornell notes-writing the main idea of each slide and important notes that reflect the main idea. She will add verbal details to the power point to give them more background information and context as we move through each slide. Students will be able to determine the causes and effects of the Scientific Revolution, and the development of new technologies. Students comprehension of the concept will deepen as it is discussed throughout the presentation as well as student engagement with responses.

Step 3: Mrs. Silver will pass out Scientific Revolution Reading and Questions handout. She will explain that students will need to read and post-it each selection. After each of the reading selections, students will need to turn over to the back and answer the corresponding questions. Students will use the "4 Slices of Pizza" activity to complete. Mrs. Silver will give students 3 minutes to read the selection and 3 minutes to discuss with their answers. Once students have discussed answers, they will move to the next partner for the next reading selection. Students will continue moving in this pattern until all reading selections and questions are complete.

Step 4: Mrs. Silver will pass out the Who's Who of the Scientific Revolution Reading and Graphic Organizer. Students will need to read each reading, post-it, and complete the graphic organizer for each Scientific Revolution person. Students will complete this assignment for homework.
