Know how Nationalism and Liberalism dominated the political landscape of the 19th Century.
Understand and explain the contrasts between Realism and Romanticism.
Complete a guided reading and short response assignment on the significance of Nationalism (Skills).
Lesson for theday:
Step1: Students will begin by answering the Do Now-Explain your pride in your country? What would you do for your nation? Why? with 4-5 complete sentences. Once students have completed we will discuss, as a class, 4-5 complete sentences that should be written. Students should be able connect to the do not and give personal reflections as to what pride in a country looks like, and what they are willing to do to keep their country they way it is.
Step 2: Mrs. Silver will introduce Nationalism via PowerPoint. Students will follow instruction by taking Cornell notes-writing the main idea for each slide and notes that are the highlights of needed information. She will add verbal details to the power point to give them more background information and context as we move through each slide. Students will be able to understand the context of how Nationalism influenced nations to revolt against oppressive regimes. Students will also recognize the differences between Romanticism and Realism, and how they emerged as reactions to ideas of the Enlightenment. Students comprehension of the concept will deepen as it is discussed throughout the presentation as well as student engagement with responses.
Step 3: Mrs. Silver will pass out the Blood and Iron reading and questions handout. She will go over directions, whole class, and explain that students will need to turn to the last page. Mrs. Silver will display map on BENQ, so that students will be able to identify proper colors and regions. They will need this to be able to answer the questions that correspond with the map. Students will be given 10 minutes to read and post-it each page. Mrs, Silver will then ask studens to partner up to answer the questions. Students will be using the Think, Pair, Share strategy. Mrs. Silver will go over questions as a whole class. Students will repeat the process for the next reading. Mrs. Silver will use Classdojo to randomly select students for responses to questions.
