  2. Understand and explain how technological innovations brought about the factory system.

  3. Complete a short response organizer (Skill) on how industrialization changed society from agrarian dependent to technologically innovative.

Lesson for the day:

Step 1: Students will begin by completing the Do Now-Write the definition for ENCLOSURE and COTTAGE INDUSTRY in the space that is provided on the guided notes. Once students have completed we will discuss, as a class, the definitions for the two terms. Students should be able to understand the difference between cottage and factory made products.

Step 2: Mrs. Silver will introduce The Causes of the Industrial Revolution via PowerPoint. Students will follow instruction by taking guided notes-writing in corresponding words to blanks. She will add verbal details to the power point to give them more background information and context as we move through each slide. Students will be able to determine the factors that caused the Industrial Revolution to begin and spread to other places. They will also be able to Analyze the favorable economic (& resources), political, and social conditions that made Britain the prime place for the Industrial Revolution to be begin and be successful. Students comprehension of the concept will deepen as it is discussed throughout the presentation as well as student engagement with responses.

Step 3: Mrs. Silver will instruct students to turn to the next page of their guided notes. She will tell students that she is going to give them 5 minutes to read about the social changes and railroads of the Industrial Revolution (Chapter 20, p617). Students will answer the questions in the sections provided on the guided notes. Once students have had 5 minutes to read they will partner and discuss questions and answers for the reading. 4 minutes will be given for students to complete, then Mrs. Silver will use Classdojo to randomly select students for answers. Students will then move on to the next reading Science, Technology, & Society. They will be given 5 minutes to read individually. Next, they will answer questions, on the same page, as they discuss them with their partner. Students will be given 4 minutes to complete, then Mrs. Silver will use Classdojo to randomly select students for answers. Students will be using the Think, Pair, Share strategy for this assignment.

Step 4: Mrs. Silver will show the following link to students. Students will watch the clip, noting just how fast our world is changing-due to Industrialization. Once the clip has been shown, students will discuss and answer the corresponding questions in their guided reading notes.
