Know the key events and decisions that made World War II inevitable.
Understand and explain the futility and ultimate failure of the pacts designed to end war.
Complete a sequence organizer illustrating the chronological path to World War II (Skill).
Lesson for theday:
Step1: Students will begin by answering the Do Now-Describe a decision that you made when you knew that the outcome would be disastrous. In hindsight, what would you do now to make that outcome different? with 4-5 complete sentences for each question. Once students have completed we will discuss, as a class, the complete sentences that should have been written. Students should be able to connect to a time in which they did not handle the situation using the best decisions because they had to many factors influencing the issue during the moment, and upon reflection was able to think of better ways to come to a resolution.
Step 2: Mrs. Silver will introduce World War IIvia PowerPoint. Students will follow instruction by taking Cornell notes-writing the main idea for each slide and notes that are the highlights of needed information. She will add verbal details to the power point to give them more background information and context as we move through each slide. Students will analyze the causes that pulled the World into another World War. Students comprehension of the concept will deepen as it is discussed throughout the presentation as well as student engagement with responses.
Step 3: Mrs. Silver will pass out 30 September 1938: The Munich Agreement reading and questions. Students will use the post-it reading strategy as they read through the document. Mrs. Silver will give students 10 minutes to read. At the end of 10 minutes, she will partner students to use the Think, Pair, Share. Students will read over questions and answer individually, then will use the last 10 minutes to share their responses with their partner. Mrs. Silver will give students 20 minutes to complete. She will discuss, as a class, the responses to the questions using Classdojo to randomly select students.
Step 4: Mrs. Silver will pass out the Paths to War: Chapter 26; Section 1 reading. Students will read through the Chapter and fill in the Sequence Chart with events that took place - in chronological order - and influenced the causes of World War II. Students will have the remainder of class to work on this assignment, but will need to finish it for homework.
