Be aware of the need to complete all assignments, submit them in a timely manner, and what is needed to come to class prepared (Skill).
Lesson for theday:
Step 1: Mrs. Silver will begin class by welcoming students to class, exchange introductions, and distribute Student Facebook Information Sheet. Students will have 20 minutes to fill out Information Sheet.
Step 2: As students are filling out their information sheet, Mrs. Silver will pass out World History Course Syllabus and Remind. Once 20 minutes have been given to students to fill out their sheet, Mrs. Silver will go over class syllabus, addressing every item and make certain students understand both school and class policies, the direction the course will flow, explain expectations for all students, as well as World History notebook/dividers. Next, Mrs. Silver will explain what REMIND is and allow students to register, via phone, for individual class. Last Mrs. Silver will inform students about how we communicate in this class...the bulletin board, email, remind, and CANVAS.
Step 3:Mrs. Silver will pass out Cornell Note Sheet and explain how the note sheet will work. Every day the Cornell Notes will have the topic, learning targets, and do now. Next, students will be given 5 minutes to respond to the "DO NOW-What is History?". After students have responded they will have a talk session about their responses. While students are talking Mrs. Silver will distribute both handouts -What is History & Primary vs. Secondary Sources. Next, Mrs. Silver will go over Historiography via power point. Students will follow instruction by taking Cornell notes-writing the main idea for each slide and notes that are the highlights of needed information. She will add verbal details to the power point to give them more background information and context as we move through each slide. Students will build knowledge for being able to determine the validity in the sources that they encounter throughout the course. Students comprehension of the concept will deepen as it is discussed throughout the presentation as well as student engagement with responses. Next, she will go over "What is History" and Primary vs Secondary.Mrs. Silver will explain all handouts and definitions...encouraging participation (asking for volunteers to explain a particular portion of the handout).
Step 4: Mrs. Silver will distribute handouts and explain the "Where I'm From Assignment." After reading directions and explaining line items, Mrs. Silver will read her personal "Where I'm From" poem, as well as other examples. Mrs. Silver will explain to students that they have the unique opportunity to create their story however they choose. There is no wrong way. Mrs. Silver will instruct students write down as much information as they have knowledge of on the table before filling in the template. Students will continue and complete this assignment for homework. They will need to gather as much information from their parents/guardians/siblings/etc as possible and be prepared to create "their story" and be ready to share tomorrow (they can work on the poem with their parents, etc. if they so desire).
