Lesson for theday:
Step1: Students will begin by answering the Do Now-In what ways is a myth significant to a groups culture? Students will not need to write their responses for this question. We will discuss and answer as a class.
Step 2: Mrs. Silver will introduce Greek gods and philosophers via paper instruction. She will first pass out the Greek philosophers reading. She will explain to students that they will read through the document using the post-it reading strategy. Students will be given 15 minutes to read. Once students have been given 15 minutes to read they will then move to their partner to answer the corresponding questions. Students will be using the Think, Pair Share strategy for this reading. They will read each question individually, then will discuss responses that should be written with their partner. Mrs. Silver will give students 10 minutes to complete the questions. Once the 10 minutes are over, Mrs. Silver will ask students questions about the reading to check their level of understanding. She will use Classdojo to randomly select students to answer the questions. We will discuss whole class the responses that students have generated. Once the reading has been discussed, students will move to the assignment-Greek gods.
Greek Philosophers Reading and Questions
Step 3: Mrs. Silver will pass out the Greek gods reading. She will explain that students will read this reading about each Greek god as homework. Students will need to use the post-it reading strategy to read each selection about the gods. Once she has explained the homework assignment, she will then pass out the project instructions and handouts. Mrs. Silver will first go over the directions and rubric handout. She will explain each requirement that will be needed to complete the poster. Next, Students will be given mini posters to complete their project on. Last, Mrs. Silver will place (at the front of the room on her desk) pictures of each god for students to have a picture to either cut out and color, or use for reference to draw, on their poster. Students will be given the remainder of the class to work on their posters.
