I Want Students:

  1. Know how to complete a P.E.R.S.I.A.N Chart for the 4 River Valley Civilizations.

  2. Understand the process to compare and contrast two or more civilizations.

  3. Describe at least two characteristics from each of the River Valley Civilizations (Skill).


Lesson for the day:


Step 1: Students will begin by answering the Do Now-What is a City-State? What are some of the necessary features that all city-states possess? with 4-5 complete sentences. Once students have completed we will discuss, as a class, 4-5 complete sentences that should be written. Students should be able to recall the definition and features of a city-state from the previous days lesson.




Step 2: Mrs. Silver will introduce Egypt, Indus, and China RVCs via PowerPoint. Students will follow instruction by taking guided notes filling in information in blanks. She will add verbal details to the power point to give them more background information and context as we move through each slide. Students will learn the elements of each component for the PERSIAN Chart and how the shaped each society. Students will be able to analyze each RVC and complete a Venn Diagram once students have completely filled out their 4 column Chart for each civilization. Students comprehension of the concept will deepen as it is discussed throughout the presentation as well as student engagement with responses.




Step 3: Mrs. Silver will instruct students to get out their 4 column PERSIAN Chart from the Mesopotamia lesson. She will tell students that they will need to transfer information from their notes to complete the PERSIAN Chart for each society. Students will turn in their completed chart at the end of class.
