Understand the influence and significance the Enlightenment ideals played in Latin American Revolutions.
Examine the characteristics of the Mexican Revolution and critically analyze (Skill) how one-time opposing forces galvanized their forces revolt against Spain.
Lesson for theday:
Step1: Students will begin by answering the Do Now-What are five (5) characteristics of a Revolution? (Yes...This is a review question) with 4-5 complete sentences. Once students have completed we will discuss, as a class, 4-5 complete sentences that should be written. Students should be able to recall the 5 characteristics from previous lessons and the creation of their "How to Start a Revolution" booklet.
Step 2: Mrs. Silver will introduce The Latin American Revolution via PowerPoint. Students will follow instruction by taking guided notes-writing in corresponding words to blanks. She will add verbal details to the power point to give them more background information and context as we move through each slide. Students will be able to connect Enlightenment ideals and other revolutions influence on the people within Latin America and what motivated them to seek independence. Students comprehension of the concept will deepen as it is discussed throughout the presentation as well as student engagement with responses.
Step 3: Mrs. Silver will pass out the Mexican Revolution Reading and questions. She will explain that students will need to read and use the post-it reading strategy as they read through the selection. Mrs. Silver will give students 20 minutes to complete the reading. Once 20 minutes have passed Mrs. Silver will ask students to look over and answer as many of the accompanying questions as they can in a 10 minute time period. Next, she will ask students to get with their 2 Slice Pizza partners to complete the question sections of the handout. Students will use the Think, Pair, Share for this part of the reading.
Step 4: Mrs. Silver will pass out the Imperialism Political Cartoon Activity and Rubric. Mrs. Silver will go over directions and explain the requirements (rubric). She will also show previous students examples to help students (Visually). Students will work on this for the remainder of the class, but will complete this assignment for homework.
