Know the different degrees of punishment for Germany by each of the "Big Three."
Understand and explain Article 231, the War Guilt Clause, Germany was blamed for starting the war.
Read and critique (Skill) Woodrow Wilson's 14 Point Peace, specifically the 14th point which called for the creation of a United Nations.
Lesson for theday:
Step1: Students will begin by answering the Do Now-You have completely destroyed your enemy. Do you then blame them for everything, punish them severely, or do you show compassion? Why? with 4-5 complete sentences for each question. Once students have completed we will discuss, as a class, the complete sentences that should have been written. Students should be able to connect to the question by recalling a time in which they were at a crossroads as to how they were going to deal with a conflict.
Step 2: Mrs. Silver will introduce The Treaty of Versaillesvia PowerPoint. Students will follow instruction by taking Cornell notes-writing the main idea for each slide and notes that are the highlights of needed information. She will add verbal details to the power point to give them more background information and context as we move through each slide. Students will build knowledge for the details, of the treaty, that were outlined for the expectations and stipulations of Germany's reparations and the conclusion of WWI. Students will use perspective to draw conclusions to the fairness and treatment of Germany in the eyes of the world. Students comprehension of the concept will deepen as it is discussed throughout the presentation as well as student engagement with responses.
Step 3: Mrs. Silver will pass out the handout Woodrow Wilson's Fourteen Points reading and questions. Students will use the post-it reading strategy as they read through the document. Mrs. Silver will give students 10 minutes to read. At the end of 10 minutes, she will partner students to use the Think, Pair, Share. Students will read over questions and answer individually, then will use the last 10 minutes to share their responses with their partner. Mrs. Silver will give students 20 minutes to complete. She will discuss, as a class, the responses to the questions using Classdojo to randomly select students.
Step 4: Mrs. Silver will pass out the A Flawed Peace handout. Students will choose between; older/newer textbook, notes, or device to complete the chart. Mrs. Silver will give students 20 minutes to complete. Once 20 minutes have passed, Mrs. Silver will discuss, as a class, the responses to the questions using Classdojo to randomly select students.
