SWBAT:

  • Students will know how to document a historical document by completing the appropriate Graphic Organizer.

  • Students will know how to use note taking strategies to transfer information from the notes to an organizer.


Step 1: Students will begin class by organizing their notebooks as the DO NOW. Mrs. Silver will display, via powerpoint, section labels as to how students will need to label their dividers.

Step 2: Next Mrs. Silver will ask students to take out their phones and sign up for REMIND (handout that was given on the 2nd day of school) by class.


Step 3: Mrs. Silver will ask students to take out their Cornell Notes, labeled Historiography, from the 2nd day of school. Mrs. Silver will explain the lay out of the Cornell Notes discussing: the topic, name, date, class period, learning targets, Do Now, and Main Idea-Notes. Next, Mrs. Silver will begin the Historiography power point. As Mrs. Silver transitions through the slides she will explain what Historiography is, what all it requires, and how students should be taking notes using the Cornell Note taking method.




Step 4: Mrs. Silver will partner students and instruct them to use their vocabulary from the previous day, as well as their Cornell Notes, to answer the Historiography Questions handout. Students will be able to discuss and compare questions and answers as they work through the handout together.



Step 5: Students will fill out an EXIT TICKET. Students will respond to 2 questions about Historiography.

*THIS LESSON EXPLAINS TO THE STUDENTS THE IMPORTANCE OF HISTORY AND HISTORICAL RESEARCH. THIS LESSON EXPOSES THEM TO THE TERMINOLOGY ASSOCIATED WITH HISTORY AND PROVIDES THEM WITH A PREVIEW OF HOW TO RESEARCH AND CONSTRUCT THEIR MANDATORY RESEARCH PAPER-35 MINUTES (TOTAL 85 MINUTES)
