Do Now: Students will fill out a Facebook profile information sheet. The information sheet will be used to get to know some details about each student on an individual level.
Step 1
Students will begin by completing the Do Now. I will explain to students what a Do Now is and that they will complete a Do Now for each day.
Next, I will welcome students to class by introducing myself to students via powerpoint. This will enable the students to get to know Mrs. Silver as a person, as well as a teacher.
Step 2
I will handout my class syllabus to students and explain course specifications, requirements, and rules. Students will need to go over the class syllabus with their parents. The class syllabus will need to signed and returned.
Step 3 Once I have introduced myself I will hand out the Cornell Note sheet. I will instruct students on how to use the Cornell Note Sheet, and how to take notes using the handout. Students will use the Cornell Note sheet for note taking in class for the semester. Students will answer the question, located in the Do Now section, "What is History?". I will then go around class and ask students for answers to the question to generate 4-5 sentences. Once we have gone over the definition, I will handout the "What is History?" handout with bulleted information. Next, I will ask students to turn the paper over to the backside. The backside has the definition and examples of a Primary and Secondary Resource. I will go over each one and what the difference between the 2 are. This will be important for students to know and be able to apply for the course of the semester, as we will be investigating Primary and Secondary Sources throughout History.
